The Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling for criminal charges to be laid against corruption accused businessman Hangwani Maumela.
This after the Special Investigating Unit attached his assets from his Sandton luxury home as part of an investigation into tender corruption at Tembisa hospital.
The unit revealed late last month that criminal syndicates siphoned R2 billion from the hospital.
The DA’s Gauteng health spokesperson Jack Bloom said while the SIU has made progress on its investigation, it is yet to be completed and produce a final report.
He added that it is now time for prosecutions
"We also want the money that can be recovered to go back to the Gauteng health department so they can fix hospitals like Tembisa where patients are suffering because there is far too much stealing taking place. We really need to see people in court and that needs to start happening," said Bloom.
